How we work

Bell Underest is written by one small editorial team and paid for by nobody else. This page sets out how the eighteen hotels were chosen, what the entries are built from, what is deliberately missing, and how to tell us when something here is wrong.

How the hotels were chosen

Four categories were fixed first: ice, casino, art and capsule houses. Within each, we looked for properties that are open, well documented in public sources, and different enough from one another to be worth describing separately. No property paid to appear, and none was left out for refusing to. The list is closed at eighteen and is not a ranking.

What the entries are built from

Each entry is drawn from the property's own published pages, from operator and group material, from maps and from published reporting. Where two sources disagreed, we kept the property's own wording. Where a point could not be confirmed at all, it was cut rather than softened. Every entry carries the month in which it was last checked.

What is not on this site

There are no prices, no star grades, no room counts, no ratings, no reviews and no booking or affiliate links. We do not describe gaming floors, games or wagering anywhere, including in the casino section, where the complexes are treated purely as hotels and resorts. We make no promises about weather, availability, access or what a stay will feel like.

Telling us about an error

Corrections are welcome, particularly from the properties themselves. If a detail here is out of date or was never right, write to us and say which entry and which line is at issue, and point to the source if there is one. The address and what to expect are on the contact page.
